Welcome to July – ½ way through winter and hasn’t it been cold? I think this is the coldest winter we have had for a few years!
Even though it has been cold, this weekend was beautiful and so Jayda and I decided to take advantage of this and go for a walk to check out our little babbling creek and make sure all the frogs were happy and singing.
Since we last spoke the Hampton Food Festival has been and gone and what a success it was! Just over 5,000 (a record) people attended on a perfect winter’s day – the weather Gods were very kind to us. Unfortunately, our picnic hampers weren’t as successful as we had hoped however I think we learnt a lot and from the positive feedback we received next years’ will be even better. I have to say I enjoyed the experience of being on the “other side” of the festival this year as it is a great community event and the work that the committee puts in is just amazing. We had 3 full days of “putting it up” and one to “pull it down”!
Each month I thought I would try to showcase one or more of my suppliers as without them I don’t have a business! This month I would like to tell you a little more about Shells Kitchen and Prudence’s Panty – both Toowoomba businesses.
So, the next biggie for Graziers is Father’s Day – first weekend in September which isn’t that far away! I’m in the process of creating new hampers for Father’s Day which will go onto the website once I have them completed them so keep an eye out for them – especially the ones which will have either Gin or Mead in them! I will give you a sneak preview through my next Newsletter in August – hope you enjoyed the first one!
Shell’s Kitchen Toowoomba – is owned and operated by Michelle Cullen Ferguson, a beautiful soul who has a passion for cooking, helping others and supporting her community – all of which she ties up in her meals and tasty treats! Shell supplies The Grazier with her melt in the mouth shortbread which is just so buttery and soft. Shell also provides catering services for private and corporate events. As you can see Jayda loves going to visit Aunty Shell as she always has a little treat for her!
Prudence’s Pantry – is owned and operated by Bek Davidson. Bek is a true professional with a ready smile and easy-going manner which makes dealing with her a real pleasure. She makes handmake award winning relish, chutneys, sauce, jams, marmalade & fruit paste. She sources local produce, where possible, and then manufactures it all locally in Toowoomba, specialising in small batches of handmade prize-winning condiments from assorted jams, relishes and chutneys to sauces and marmalades. Bek supplies The Grazier with her beautifully presented Strawberry and Raspberry (perfect for Monte Carlos) jams, pastes – just the thing for your cheeseboard, and tomato sauce.
Well, that’s about it from me for July, only one more month of Winter and then we can head into Spring!
